When Ferdinando's Focacceria at 151 Union Street went dark in February 2025, most of the block assumed the worst. A 4,000-square-foot corner space, 121 years of history, and a Carroll Gardens real estate market where brownstones were fielding multiple offers in the first week of listing. The neighborhood math pointed one direction: national chain, delivery-optimized concept, something with a QR code menu.
That is not what happened. And the reason it did not happen is the most interesting thing about Carroll Gardens in the summer of 2026.
